Addiction is one of the most compelling disorders because it is devastating not only to individuals, but to their entire networks of family and friends. While much is heralded about the etiologies of substance use disorders (SUDs), it has become increasingly evident that there are multiple intersecting pathways by which and individual seemingly develops an addiction. Moreover, once somebody is addicted, an entirely separate set of events or stressors may perpetuate the addiction.
